This Classic Concoction is Just What the Doctor Ordered. Legend has it swanky folks concocted the recipe at the Manhattan Club, but you don’t have to be a high roller to enjoy one of the oldest cocktails in history.
- 2 oz. Old Wm. Tarr Manchester Reserve
- .5 oz. dry vermouth
- .5 oz. sweet red vermouth
- 2-3 dashes bitters
Stir in a mixing glass with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a citrus peel or cherry.
Doctor Iain Marshall allegedly invented the drink at the Manhattan Club in NYC somewhere around 1870, which – coincidentally – was around the same time William Tarr bought the Ashland Distillery.
